Christmas Has Everyone’s Attention…

I believe in Santa Clause. Yet, even more than believing in Santa Clause and waiting for the morning of the 25th finding cookies half eaten and milk have gone there is a bigger story taking place. Ringing throughout all of eternity, even before there was time, this season had everyone’s attention.

Every time a baby is born, time stops as families and parents stand in awe of the creation of life. The 7lbs, wrinkled skin, fragile body brings the persons involved to tears of joy and happiness. Their whole life and existence pauses knowing that nothing more precious is deserving in life. That life has breath for a reason only a creator can imagine. And for each, you and me, we were that to our families at one point in history. So should our God be to us even more so. For Christmas has everyone’s attention.

For in 2009, the entire world awaits the moment of breathlessness, the moment of serenity, of joy and of happiness, a time when the entire world stops and stands in awe, wonder and amazement. All of existence pauses knowing that this baby came for the undeserving and would live a life undeserved. The entire existence of mankind awaits for this moment. Christmas has everyone’s attention.

Even two thousand years after this birth, we anxiously await the arrival of this child so we can look on him with amazement, hoping to have a glimpse of the face of the one we call “Lord,” but this baby grants us the ability to call Him “Abba, Father.” This child has our attention.

Even for those who deny the realness of this child, they two understand the importance of this moment and in vain, they attempt to take away the beauty, the meaning of this life. Yet, their hearts and souls are stirred by this account because they, too, were created for this amazement.Their lives are impacted by the birth of this child. Christmas has everyone’s attention.

Though presents, families, turkey and dressing all are to be expected, none can fathom the realness of this waiting. We were created for this moment, the moment to set our eyes on the one who is our Savior, our Messiah, our love and our passion. Our very being was created for this experience. Our emotional and spiritual capacity was built to endure the moment of this birth, for without this birth the beauty of grace is void. Christmas has everyone’s attention.

We wait and the anticipation is painful. We wait and our hearts are found stirring. We wait, breathless and still. We wait because Christmas has our full attention. And no one will wait in vain!
